Day 9 - Pula, Croatia
Pula was another unexpected treat for me - but not so much for Janet. She came down with a cold in Dubrovnik (which did shorten our stay there a bit) and was feeling pretty punk when we arrived in Pula. The first news of the morning was that our evening ashore was canceled due to previously misunderstood regulations regarding our tenders. We needed to be back aboard and embarking before the dinner was even scheduled to begin. While initially disappointing, with how Janet was feeling, this turned out to be a bit of a blessing.
One other thing worth mentioning was that this was the first use of the ship's tenders and it was a bit of a tender going. The water was rough and it wasn't all that smooth getting folks in and out. I'm sure they'll iron this out.

Okay, in Venice I finally had decent broadband. YEA!!! But I got a bit greedy and uploaded all these pictures at once some I'll have to detail them all down here.
- The top row is of the Pula Coliseum. It is about half the size of its forebearer in Rome but is considered the best preserved in the world.
- The second row presents many of the artifacts recovered from Roman times and beyond.
- The third row shows 1) an ancient - and rather imprecise - map with the Adriatic upper middle and the Mediterranean lower middle, 2) a peek at the Adriatic through the trees, and 3) an ancient gate to the city (the wall is mostly destroyed).
- The bottom row details 1) the gate arches - with Hercules protecting the city and two views on the inner gate which reputedly Michelangelo called the most exquisite arch from antiquity.
