Day 37 - Bergen, Norway
This promises to be a very interesting stop. We have been to Bergen before and still have much to explore. Norway's national holiday is Setendemai - the 17th of May - and is a big deal. It is custom to wear the bunad (dress) of your native region. This will also be the day that our ship - the Viking Star - is christened Additionally we hope to see one or more of our Norwegian "buddies" there. We think the most likely will be Annelin - a lovely young woman who was a "tween" when we first met her in 1998.
Update: And boy was it interesting. Throughout the trip the "fifty day folks" anticipated some degree of recognition and interaction and this looked like that occasion. All 125 of us received a special invitation to an on-shore dinner and the accompanying christening and concert. You can see that we and our friends are "dressed to the nines" for this event. The only problem was that when we showed up to be shuttled to the event, we were informed there had been a miscommunication and we weren't invited after all. OK - this was a significant Snafu ... but they did make it up to us via a generous credit - and the six of us below had an uproarious shipboard dinner.
